TikTok adds automatic captions to videos
TikTok has taken a big step towards making its implementation more intuitive by adding an automatic caption feature, which allows video creators to create subtitles for clips automatically.
TikTok users who wanted to make their videos more accessible had to manually write the captions, which could be time consuming.
The option to add automatic captions appears on the editing page after uploading or recording the video.
TikTok says: The feature will be available in both American English and Japanese initially, but it plans to add support for more languages in the coming months.
The platform is adding a feature to make TikTok videos easier for deaf and hard of hearing viewers.
However, the TikTok dialog also says: The feature is useful for anyone who watches videos when listening to audio is difficult or uncomfortable.
Content creators can modify captions after they are created automatically to fix any errors, and viewers can turn off captions via the captions button in the share panel.
As auto-copy technology has improved over the years, the services have increased their addition to their programs to make content more accessible.
Last month, Google included the feature in Chrome browser, which allows it to create captions for audio played through the browser.
The company's Live Caption system is also available as a system-wide feature for select Android devices.
Video chatting services like Zoom and Google Meet can generate automatic captions during calls, and the Instagram platform also appears to be testing a similar feature for its videos.
TikTok's automatic captions are the latest access feature to be added by the app.
The app also warns content creators of videos that may lead to photosensitivity epilepsy and provides filters for viewers to avoid such videos, and the text-to-speech feature was added late last year.
