WhatsApp: Voice and video calling feature outside of the desktop app
Whatsapp desktop app has audio and video calling feature. Today, Facebook's proprietary messaging service announced that it offers end-to-end encrypted calls to other users on both computers and mobile devices. The feature is already available for the mobile version.
Now make calls directly from WhatsApp on the desktop
The company started rolling out the voice and video calling feature on the desktop to a small number of users at the end of last year. So, today's launch means the feature is available to everyone on the desktop. All Whatsapp desktop users can now make calls from the same computer.
The company said that as of now, the Mac and Windows desktop app will only support one-to-one calls, and this will be expanded in the future to include conference calling.
The company said that video calls work the same way for both portrait and landscape orientation. If you are a desktop user, you will not lose your video chats in a browser tab or in an open window.
However, the audio and video calling feature is only available for Whatsapp desktop and not Whatsapp Web. So, do not get confused. The new futuristic desktop app promises end-to-end encryption, which means WhatsApp or Facebook cannot hear your calls. You will only be allowed to place one-on-one calls as conference calling is not yet available.
