Bombing the Amazon and disrupting the Internet .. America foils a "terrible plan"
And thanked the technology giant "Amazon" the US Federal Bureau of Investigation after its success in thwarting a horrific plot to detonate it.
And Saturday, the FBI arrested a Texas man who was alleged to have conspired to blow up the AWS data center in an attempt to shut down about 70% of the internet and bring down power in the United States.
The man attempted to obtain an explosive device from a secret FBI agent with the intent to destroy the Amazon Web Services Virginia facility.
One of the participants in the congressional attack
The man boasted of participating in the attack on the US Capitol Building (Congress) on January 6.
He said he wanted to blow up the Amazon data center because he believed it was providing services to the FBI, CIA, and other federal agencies.
The Justice Department has charged the man with trying to destroy the Amazon Data Center building with explosives, and if found guilty, he faces up to 20 years in federal prison.
According to the Justice Ministry's complaint, the investigation began after the man posted statements on the militia group's online forum MyMilitia.com.
Encrypted communications
In late January, the man began using the encrypted messaging app Signal to communicate with a secret FBI source.
The source told FBI investigators that the man said he planned to use C-4 plastic explosives to blow up the Amazon Data Center facility in Virginia.
A secret FBI source linked the man to someone who claimed to be a supplier of explosives, and he was arrested after receiving what he believed to be explosives from the agent, but they were in fact inert devices.
We owe this to the concerned citizen who informed the FBI about the defendants' online statements, as this person saved the lives of a number of technology workers, Acting US Attorney General Priyak Shah of North Texas said in a statement.
He added: The Ministry of Justice is determined to arrest local extremists who intend to commit acts of violence, regardless of the political feelings that drive them to do so.
In a statement, Amazon thanked the FBI for its work on the investigation.
A company spokesperson said: We take the safety and security of our employees and customer data very seriously, and are constantly reviewing various factors for any potential threats, and we continue to maintain this vigil about our employees and customers.
